Musician-in-Residence

Host a Musician-in-Residence in your school for between 10-30 weeks.

This programme embeds a hub instrumental or vocal tutor in a school for 1 half/whole days per week* for one, two or three terms.

The aim is to support instrumental and ensemble provision in the school, use music to support learning across the curriculum, and enable the instrumental tutor to develop  their own practice.

What will happen?

Guided by the school music subject lead, the tutor will develop their inclusive practice through a combination of:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group instrumental tuition

  • Performing in formal and informal contexts within the school day

  • Developing school ensembles and/or choirs

  • Exploring the use of music in other areas of the curriculum e.g. history, geography, art, sensory curricula.

  • Supporting curriculum music lessons

*Note: The project is funded for 0.5 days for 10- 30 weeks, subject to discussions with your local music hub. Schools in some areas may have the option to buy in an additional half-day at music hub rates.
